Choosing a franchise is one of the biggest financial decisions you will make. Use this checklist to compare opportunities objectively.

1. Fix your total budget

Include the franchise fee, fit-out, equipment, first inventory, deposits and at least 6 months of working capital.

2. Match the brand to your location

A brand that works in a metro mall may struggle in a small town, and vice-versa. Study footfall, competition and local spending.

3. Understand the unit economics

  • Expected monthly revenue at your location
  • Royalty and marketing fees
  • Rent as a percentage of revenue
  • Realistic payback period

4. Talk to existing franchisees

Ask about support, supply quality, hidden costs and how long it took them to break even.

5. Read the agreement carefully

Check the term, renewal, territory rights, exit clauses and any minimum purchase commitments. Get legal advice.

6. Evaluate support

Training, site selection, launch marketing, technology and ongoing field support make a big difference in the first year.
